Simon Hughes is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in community engagement, strategic infrastructure, and environmental management. Currently serving as the Community Engagement and Siting Director at Nuclear Waste Services since October 2020, Simon focuses on identifying communities willing to host the UK's Geological Disposal Facility for high-level radioactive waste. Previous leadership roles include Directorships at SECBE and Hughes Associates Consulting Ltd. Simon has also held significant positions at Portsmouth Water Limited, Agilia Infrastructure Partners, and Thames Water, where Simon improved stakeholder relationships and led major water resource initiatives. Simon's earlier career at the Environment Agency included roles such as Deputy Director for London and Regional Strategy Manager, focusing on operational excellence and policy development in flood risk management. Simon holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries Science from the University of Plymouth and a NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety.
