Jon Harald Sande Lie is a Senior Research Fellow at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) since May 2011, with prior experience as a Research Fellow at NUPI from September 2007 to May 2011 and as a Research Assistant from January 2003 to April 2004. Lie has also served as a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley during the academic year 2012-2013. Research focuses include development assistance, the World Bank, and civil-military cooperation, particularly in the contexts of Uganda, Ethiopia, and Sudan, as well as concepts such as the 'responsibility to protect' and 'protection of civilians'. Academic background includes a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Bergen, completed between September 2004 and May 2011, and an MPhil in Social Anthropology from the University of Oslo, earned from 1996 to 2004.
