Robert Temple

General Counsel at NuScale Power

Robert (Bob) Temple, general counsel and secretary, is responsible for providing strategic advice on legal, business, regulatory, governance and compliance matters. Contracts counsel, patent counsel, regulatory counsel, the export control manager and senior paralegal are part of the NuScale legal department staff reporting to Temple. Temple directs use of inside and outside counsel as well as the ethics and compliance programs at NuScale.

Temple served in the position of general counsel & corporate secretary for Toshiba America Energy Systems Corporation (TAES). While at TAES he worked with senior management to develop and monitor company policies, procedures, controls and programs, and was responsible for leading the TAES legal team. Temple also served as general counsel & corporate secretary for another Charlotte-based affiliate: Toshiba America Nuclear Energy Corporation (TANE). The TAES Quality and Safety functions and staff also report to him.

Prior to joining TAES, Temple was assistant general counsel for The Babcock & Wilcox Company where he served as the chief legal advisor for Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Energy, Inc. and Babcock & Wilcox mPower, Inc., as well as the general counsel and secretary for Generation mPower LLC. Temple joined Babcock & Wilcox in 2011 from the Washington, D.C. office of Haynes and Boone, LLP. During his career, he worked as an associate, of counsel, or partner in the Chicago and Washington, D.C. offices of the law firms of Winston & Strawn, Hopkins & Sutter and McGuireWoods. Temple was Deputy General Counsel, vice president and Secretary at CPS Energy and served as an in-house attorney with Commonwealth Edison (now Exelon).

Prior to becoming an attorney, Temple was a licensed senior reactor operator at LaSalle County Station; he worked for General Electric and served in the U.S. Navy aboard nuclear submarines.

Temple received his Juris Doctorate degree from Illinois Institute of Technology's Chicago-Kent College of Law (1995) and he received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University (1988). Temple is currently a licensed member of the bar in the states of Illinois, Oregon, and Texas, and also Washington D.C.
