Michael Towbin

Michael Towbin has held various roles in the tech industry since 2008. From 2008 to 2012, they were an Emergency Medical Technician at American Medical Response. During this time, they implemented training protocols, coordinated logistical aspects for medical support, and prioritized tasks for 911 responses. From 2012 to 2013, they were an eCommerce Product Manager and eCommerce and Data Specialist at SwaddleDesigns. In this role, they collaborated with the CEO and President to create performance management practices, led a company team to implement a new eCommerce shopping platform, and consolidated nine national vendors into a single Electronic Data Interchange system. From 2013 to 2015, they were a Systems Architect and DevOps Engineer at Boeing. During this time, they developed Logical, Data Flow, and User diagrams, provided technical and network analysis for Airline Customers, and led the Military Toolbox operations support. From 2015 to 2018, they were a Solutions Architect and Senior DevOps Engineer at Slalom Consulting. During this time, they assisted in automating their environment creation and configuration management, provided implementation guidance and best practices for ELK stack, and migrated customer facing applications to AWS. Finally, from 2018 to 2019, they were a Lead Site Reliability Engineer at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance. In this role, they evangelized SRE principals to both business stakeholders and engineers, reduced AWS costs, and migrated applications to AWS container-based hosting solution. Currently, they are the Director of Cloud Operations and Principal Site Reliability Engineer at Octave Bioscience.

Michael Towbin completed their Bachelor of Science in Commerce (BSc) in Operations and Management Information Systems from Santa Clara University between 2003 and 2007. Michael then attended the University of Washington from 2014 to 2015 and obtained a Certificate in Cloud Application Development on Amazon Web Services and Certificates in Cloud Data Management & Analytics and Project Management. Prior to this, they attended Eastside Catholic High School from 1999 to 2003. In 2018 and 2019, they obtained a Certificate in Information Security & Risk Management from the University of Washington. Additionally, they obtained three certifications from Amazon Web Services: AWS Certified Developer - Associate in March 2016, AWS Certified SysOps Administrator - Associate in March 2016, and AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate in October 2015.
