Nick Schaer is a seasoned Physical Scientist with extensive experience in geology and hydrogeology, currently serving at the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement since October 2003. Responsibilities include work as a geologist for the Charleston Field Office and development and teaching of mobile GIS courses as part of the TIPS program. Nick has also been a farmer at The Potager, an organic vegetable farm in Putnam County, WV, since 2005. Prior to these roles, Nick held positions as a Program Development Geologist and Senior Karst Geologist at the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection from May 2000 to July 2022, as well as a GeoMicrobiologist at Lamda Group, Inc. from 1986 to 1988. Nick holds a BS in Geology from The Ohio State University, obtained between 1981 and 1986, and further education was completed at West Virginia University from 1993 to 1996.
