Mathieu Chouchane

Senior Software Engineer at Onfido

Mathieu Chouchane has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Mathieu started their career as a Research Student at Université Paris 6 (LIP6) in 2008. In 2009, they worked as a Temporary Teacher at Université du Sud Toulon Var, followed by a role as a Teaching and Research Temporary Attaché at the same university from 2010 to 2012.

During this time, Mathieu also worked as a Freelance Editor at Bestofmedia from 2006 to 2009, and as an Editor for a brief period in 2006.

In 2009, Mathieu pursued a PhD in Computer Science at Aix-Marseille Université, where their research focused on spatio-temporal optimization of search efforts for smart and reactive moving targets. Mathieu adapted state-of-the-art randomised search methods, implemented dedicated simulators and solvers, and contributed to various articles and technical reports.

After completing their PhD, Mathieu worked as a Freelance Editor for CBS Interactive from 2009 to 2014.

In 2014, Mathieu joined CEA - Commissariat à l'énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives as an Optimisation Researcher (postdoctoral position). Mathieu worked on energy distribution planning in smart cities and electric vehicles charging, using randomised search methods and implementing demonstration packages in MATLAB.

From 2017 to 2017, Mathieu worked at TheGreenData as an Optimisation Engineer, focusing on optimizing the supply chain for agricultural cooperatives. Mathieu assessed the cooperatives' needs, identified performance levers, and implemented solutions using simulation and deterministic optimisation methods.

Mathieu most recently worked as a Software Engineer at Corsica Sole from 2019 to 2021, and currently serves as a Backend Engineer at Onfido since October 2021. Mathieu plays a key role in assessing the authenticity of users' government-issued IDs using AI-based technology and comparing it against their facial biometrics, enabling companies to onboard customers securely and remotely. Overall, Mathieu's work experience highlights their expertise in optimization, computer science, and software engineering across various sectors.

Mathieu Chouchane has a diverse and extensive education history. Mathieu started their education in 1999 at Lycée Marcelin Berthelot, where they obtained an A level in Science. In 2002, they enrolled at Université Paris-Est Créteil (UPEC) and pursued a Higher National Diploma in Mathematics and Computer Science, which they completed in 2004. Mathieu furthered their studies at UPEC, completing a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Mathematics from 2004 to 2006. During the same period, they also obtained another B.Sc. from UPEC, this time in Computer Science. In 2006, Mathieu Chouchane joined Pierre and Marie Curie University, where they pursued a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Computer Science with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence from 2006 to 2008. Mathieu then proceeded to Aix-Marseille University, where they achieved their highest level of education, a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computer Science, which they earned from 2009 to 2013. Throughout their education, Mathieu Chouchane focused on computer science, artificial intelligence, mathematics, and science.
