Charles Ruizhongtai Qi

Charles Ruizhongtai Qi is a highly accomplished machine learning and computer vision expert with extensive experience in autonomous driving technologies. Currently a member of the technical staff at OpenAI since September 2025, Charles previously served as a Staff Machine Learning Scientist at Tesla, where responsibilities included developing end-to-end large models for driving. Prior to this, Charles held significant roles at Waymo as a Tech Lead Manager and Staff Research Scientist, focusing on perception foundation models and advanced 3D perception, as well as at Meta as a Postdoctoral Researcher specializing in 3D deep learning. Charles's educational background includes a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Engineering from Tsinghua University. Throughout the career, Charles has contributed to various projects, publications, and advancements in the fields of machine learning and autonomous systems.
