Matthew Akana

Matthew Akana has extensive work experience in the scientific field, with a focus on technology development, platform development, and assay development. Matthew currently holds the position of Lead Scientist (NGS) at Opentrons Labworks Inc. Prior to this role, they worked as a Senior Scientist, Technology Development at MDSeq Inc. Matthew also served as a Senior Platform Development Scientist at Phosphorus and as a Clinical Sequencing Specialist at Recombine. Earlier in their career, they worked as an Assay Development Scientist at Merck Research Labs, a Biologist at Bio Nano Genomics, a Research Associate at UCSF, and a Research Assistant at Renovis. Matthew's work experience spans from 2005 to the present.

Matthew Akana obtained their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Biomolecular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley, where they studied from 2003 to 2005. Following this, they pursued further education at the University of Maryland Global Campus from 2009 to 2011, earning a Master of Science (MS) / Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Biotechnology.
