POSITION TITLE: Development Director

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: President

JOB PURPOSE: The development director leads the formulation of an overall development and fundraising strategy, oversees the plan’s execution and manages the team that executes the plan.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED

  • Established leadership skills, with significant experience in a professional setting

  • Established interpersonal skills in written and conversational settings

  • Established time, task and resource management skills

  • Ability to work independently, as well as effectively with a diverse team

  • Ability to work well under pressure, including managing and leading the team under sometimes adverse conditions

  • Significant hands-on experience in development administration, or a related field

QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in non-profit or business administration or related field preferred; Certified Fundraising Professional preferred.

  • Prior experience with developmental disability services preferred

  • Detail and deadline-oriented, with confidence in managing priorities and calendar

  • Established tech skills, with diverse experience with multiple web-based applications and platforms. Most importantly, possess a willingness and ability to learn and explore new systems.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

PRIMARY

PLANNING & STRATEGY

Opportunity Knocks is an organization that is continuously developing and re-developing our strategy, goals, and objectives.

  • Participate in leadership team activity and organizational strategy planning sessions

  • Maintain a high-level understanding of all program and organizational activities, initiatives, projects

  • Lead the Development Committee in creating the annual development plan; Install that plan into the organization’s annual budget

  • Coordinate ongoing monitoring, evaluation and response to plan performance

TEAM MANAGEMENT

The development team is growing through the addition of staff and the broadening engagement of committees, boards and other groups.

  • Oversee and support the development team in the pursuit of the goals and objectives within the annual development plan and organization’s strategic plan

  • Provide consistent management, mentoring and support to development staff

  • Coordinate communications and activities of the Development Committee

DEVELOPMENT ADMINISTRATION

The annual development plan has a multi-faceted approach. Broader multi-year opportunities and strategy will also be formalized, the director will oversee and participate in multiple ways.

  • Donor Cultivation & Management - formulate strategy, delegate and participate in cultivating and managing individual, corporate and foundation relationships

  • Grants - develop the strategy and delegate the duties related to grant prospecting, submissions & management of awarded grants

  • Events - support development coordinator’s event management efforts and ensure that donor cultivation and management initiatives connect to the event fundraising strategy

  • Data & Systems - collaborate with leadership team to integrate data collection strategy that will support  development initiatives

  • Marketing - Collaborate and participate in developing materials that enhance development administration and organization branding

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

PERIODIC

  • Report directly to the Board of Directors and Auxiliary Board, as dictated by the board meeting schedule(s) - written reports and in-person presentations at meetings

  • Participate in general-organization and development-specific  professional development

  • Be prepared to attend and/or coordinate attendance at partner events

  • Coordinate and lead site tours for individual, corporate, foundation supporters

  • Perform, delegate and supervise other related duties as they arise.

COMPENSATION

At Opportunity Knocks we are committed to a salary band structure that establishes a level of expectation for performance and compensation at each position on the organizational chart. Roles and responsibilities within each department may vary. Bands align by grouping a comparable level of responsibility across departments. Salaries align at band levels so that we can establish a clear, transparent, and equitable compensation structure for the whole organization. 

Base Salary: $62,500
