Azadeh Mostafavi

Senior Scientist - Cell line development and tissue engineering at Orbillion Bio

Azadeh Mostafavi has a diverse work experience that spans from 2013 to 2021. From 2013 to 2018, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at Royan Institute, where they developed a highly tough and self-healable dual physically crosslinked sulfated alginate-based polyurethane elastomers for vascular tissue engineering. Azadeh also synthesized and characterized the physical and mechanical properties of the polymer, and analyzed the anticoagulation activities of the polymer to prevent blood clotting and platelet adhesion to the scaffold. From 2018 to 2020, they worked as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where they improved muscle regeneration and vascularization through in vivo printing of growth factor-loaded nanoengineered material in volumetric muscle loss animal models (VML). Azadeh also improved in vitro differentiation of myoblasts to myotubes by aligning cells through 3D bioprinting technique, and enhanced HUVECs functionality by controlling the release of growth factors (VEGF) from loaded nanoparticles (Laponites) to improve vascularization in VML injuries. In 2020, they worked as a Visiting Graduate Researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles, where they significantly improved soft tissue regeneration and vascularization in vivo through developing a new bioink for 3D bioprinting the tissue structures. Since 2021, they have been working at Orbillion Bio (YC W21) as a Senior Scientist and Scientist, both positions involving cell line development and tissue engineering.

Azadeh Mostafavi has a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2018-2021). Prior to this, they obtained a Master's Degree in Cellular and Developmental Biology from the Royan Institute (2013-2016) and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, General from Shiraz University (2008-2011). In 2021, they also obtained a certification in Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python) from Coursera.
