Joseph Timpona, PhD

Joseph Timpona, PhD has extensive work experience in the field of virology and molecular biology. Joseph currently holds the position of Senior Scientist at Orbital Therapeutics, where they have been employed since January 2023. Prior to this, they worked as a Scientist at Moderna from April 2022 to December 2022, specializing in virus neutralization assays and bioanalytics.

Before joining Moderna, Dr. Timpona served as a Scientist II in Molecular Virology at Kelonia Therapeutics from February 2021 to March 2022. Joseph was responsible for conducting research and experiments related to molecular virology.

From 2020 to 2021, Dr. Timpona worked at Ring Therapeutics as a Scientist in Virology. In this role, they led a project focused on the development and characterization of novel viral vectors.

Prior to their industry experience, Dr. Timpona gained valuable research experience as a Postdoctoral Associate at the University of Colorado Boulder from May 2018 to January 2020. Joseph successfully completed their Ph.D. in August 2018 at Harvard Medical School, where they worked as a Research Associate from August 2012 to April 2018.

Dr. Timpona also has experience as an Educator in the AP Biology Hinton Scholars Program, where they developed lesson plans and taught AP biology students core concepts for completion of AP biology labs. Additionally, they led laboratory sessions for the affiliate China Science Outreach program 2-3 times per year.

Joseph'sresearch career began as a Research Assistant at Case Western Reserve University from September 2010 to June 2012. Joseph also gained exposure to practical research as a Summer Research Intern at Alleghany Singer Research Institute from May 2008 to September 2010.

Joseph Timpona, PhD, obtained their Bachelor's Degree in Biology, General from Case Western Reserve University from 2008 to 2012. Joseph then went on to pursue their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Virology at Harvard University from 2012 to 2018.
