Jeroen Janssens

Jeroen Janssens has a diverse and extensive work experience. Jeroen is currently working as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at Xomnia since January 2023. Prior to this, they worked as an Author at O'Reilly Media, where they authored the book "Data Science at the Command Line" and published the first edition in October 2014 and the second edition in September 2021.

Jeroen also worked as a Machine Learning Engineer at the University of Amsterdam from June 2022 to December 2022. Jeroen has experience organizing and hosting events as they served as an Organizer and Master of Ceremonies for the Data Science NL Meetup from March 2019 to December 2022.

Furthermore, they founded and served as an educator at Data Science Workshops from January 2017 to December 2022. The firm provided training and coaching services in data visualization, programming, and machine learning to clients including Amazon, KPN, and The New York Times.

Jeroen has teaching experience as well. Jeroen was an Assistant Professor of Data Science at Jheronimus Academy of Data Science from November 2015 to September 2017, where they supervised master students and taught courses on Machine Learning and Statistical Programming with R.

Before that, they worked as a Lead Data Scientist at Elsevier from December 2014 to July 2015, and as a Senior Data Scientist at YPlan from October 2013 to October 2014. Jeroen started their career as a Data Scientist at Outbrain from January 2012 to October 2013, where they worked on tools for news editors.

Jeroen's educational background includes being a Ph.D. student at Tilburg center for Cognition and Communication, Tilburg University. Jeroen completed their Ph.D. with a thesis on Outlier Selection and One-Class Classification.

Jeroen Janssens obtained their Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) in Life Sciences from University College Maastricht, where they studied from 2003 to 2006. Subsequently, they pursued a Master of Science degree (cum laude) in Artificial Intelligence at Maastricht University, graduating in 2007. During their academic journey, Jeroen also had the opportunity to study Computer Science at the University of Adelaide for a year, although they did not obtain a degree from this institution.
