Randal Schwartz

Randal Schwartz has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Randal began their career in 1986 as the General Manager at Stonehenge Consulting Services, Inc., where they managed a team of trainers and contractors providing consulting services for Fortune 500 companies. Randal also published books and articles during their time there.

In 1990, Randal joined O'Reilly & Associates as an Author/Lecturer.

From 2005, they worked at InsightCruises.com as a Software Developer and System Administrator, responsible for creating and maintaining software for the website and providing IT support for the virtual servers.

Randal also served as a Voice actor/Narrator for Starship Sofa starting in 2010.

Randal became a Board Member at LinuxFund in 2009 and held that position until 2021.

In 2020, they worked as a Senior Software Engineer at HAProxy Technologies for a brief period, and also served as a Consultant at IntelliSurvey.

Starting in 2007, Randal joined TWiT.tv as the FLOSS Weekly Host and Show Runner, managing show tapings and publicity. Randal held this role until 2020.

At ZipRecruiter, Randal worked as a Fullstack Developer from 2014 to 2020, primarily focusing on refactoring legacy Perl applications and contributing to the core infrastructure team.

From 2012 to 2013, they worked as a Consultant at Nami Media, specializing in improving performance and reliability through Perl coding and database management.

Randal Schwartz began their education at Colton High School from 1975 to 1978, where they obtained their High School Diploma with a focus on Math, Science, and Journalism. Following their high school education, they enrolled at the University of Portland from 1979 to 1982. While at the University of Portland, they pursued Advanced Calculus and Computer Science, although it was noted that they did not matriculate and obtain a specific degree.

In terms of additional certifications, Randal Schwartz received the "Google Developer Expert for Dart and Flutter" certification from Google in August 2018. Prior to that, in June 2016, they achieved Spanish fluency at an intermediate level through the "Duolingo Spanish Fluency" certification program offered by Duolingo.
