Felony Attorney/policy Counsel at Orleans Public Defenders

Meghan Garvey is a seasoned attorney and policy advocate specializing in indigent defense and juvenile justice. Currently serving as a Felony Attorney and Policy Counsel at Orleans Public Defenders since October 2017, Meghan advocates for the reduction of pretrial detention and money-bail, co-authored the Louisiana Bar Association's Report on Bail, and advises multiple organizations on pretrial strategies. As Legislative Chair for the Louisiana Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Meghan has influenced legislation to improve juvenile defense practices and raise the age of criminal responsibility. Prior to current roles, Meghan was the Managing Director and President at the Louisiana Center for Children's Rights, where significant legislative advocacy was undertaken to protect youth rights and improve juvenile defense practices. With a Doctor of Law from Tulane University and a Bachelor's degree in English from Indiana University Bloomington, Meghan's expertise spans legal representation, legislative reform, and community engagement.
