The Orleans Public Defenders Office (OPD) aims to provide the citizens of Orleans Parish and each eligible client with the highest quality, client-centered legal representation in Louisiana's criminal justice system -  zealous, conscientious, caring, professional, ethical and skilled - whether in criminal, municipal or traffic court.  

OPD is a community-oriented defender office built upon that zealous defense of the poor and indigent while acknowledging the strengths of clients, families and communities.  Established in 2007, OPD represents nearly 20,000 court-appointed clients each year.

The Client Advocacy team at Orleans Public Defenders focuses on providing comprehensive support and representation for clients within Louisiana's criminal justice system. This team ensures that each client receives personalized, zealous advocacy that addresses legal needs and acknowledges the strengths of their communities and families. They handle various aspects from resentencing advocacy to ensuring justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as offering specialized support for limited English proficiency (LEP) clients and those with immigration-related legal challenges.
