Richard Piliero

Richard A. Piliero, Managing Director, leads private equity investments in the energy transition sector for Franklin Templeton Global Private Equity.

Mr. Piliero joined Franklin Templeton in 2001 as a founding member of the Templeton emerging markets private equity team, established by Dr. Mark Mobius. In this capacity, Mr. Piliero led growth-stage private equity deals and served as a board member to investee companies, in North and Southeast Asia.

Before joining Franklin Templeton, Mr. Piliero was with Investor Growth Capital in New York (the Private Equity Division of Investor AB of Sweden) and Bear Stearns & Co., in the Investment Banking Department. He also co-founded Aigis Ventures LLC, a seed-stage venture capital company in the United States. He entered the financial services industry in 1996.

Mr. Piliero holds a B.A., magna cum laude, in business economics and international relations from Brown University. He also spent a year at the politics, philosophy, and economics program at Oxford University, Worcester College. In 2021, he attended the Said Business School, the University of Oxford’s Impact Measurement Programme. Mr. Piliero speaks English and French and has basic knowledge of Mandarin and Italian.
