Karly Semenov has worked in various roles in the language and education field since 2003. Karly began their career as a Teacher at the Russian American Christian University, where they taught two listening/speaking classes for beginner students of English and a phonology class for advanced students. In 2006, they were a Senior Course Writer and Course Writer at the Defense Language Institute English Language Center, where they researched and developed content for a 34-book series, the American Language Course. Karly also applied knowledge of teaching methodology, second language acquisition, and educational standards to create engaging treatments of various learning objectives, wrote stories, dialogs, informational texts, exercises, role plays, games, etc. In 2012, Karly worked as an English Instructor at The University of Texas at San Antonio, where they taught two courses in an Intensive English Program: Writing/Grammar and Reading/Vocabulary. Karly also assisted the curriculum development team in preparation for program accreditation. That same year, they were a Freelance Writer for FORDE - FERRIER, L.L.C., where they wrote informational texts with multiple-choice questions for 3rd through 8th graders. Karly was also a Copyeditor for McGraw-Hill ELT, where they copyedited a Reading and Listening textbook in the Interactions/Mosaics series. In 2013, Karly was an Independent Contractor for National Geographic Cengage Learning, where they transferred print content to a digital platform for Life Online Workbook 6, proofread Power Point Presentations to accompany the textbook series, World Link, 3rd edition, and wrote test banks in ExamView. In 2017, they were a Freelance course writer for ellalanguage.com, where they developed three courses for CEFR levels B1-C1. In 2020, Karly worked as a Freelance English Content Editor for Duolingo and a Content Assistant for Outlier.org. Karly was also an Independent Contractor for Berlitz Corporation, where they adapted interactive video scripts into a teleprompter-ready format, edited regular and review units of general English materials, and performed basic testing of Spanish, German, French, and Mandarin online language learning materials.

Karly Semenov obtained a MA in Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language/ESL Language Instructor and Intercultural Studies from Wheaton College in 2004. Prior to that, they completed a BA in Religious Studies from the University of California, Davis in 2001. In August 2020, Karly obtained a Foundational Program for Teaching English Online certification from the TESOL International Association.
