Lauren Beck

Subject Matter Expert and Content Creator at Outlier.org

Lauren Beck has worked in a variety of roles since 2004. Lauren began their career as an English Teacher at Canyon Hills High School (formerly named Junipero Serra High School). In 2010, they became a University Instructor and Research Assistant at Northwestern University. From 2017 to 2021, they worked at the University of New Haven as a Remote Adjunct Professor, Curriculum Designer, Team Leader, and Lecturer. During this time, they developed new course content, increased stakeholder satisfaction with iteration, and trained instructors in assessment methods. In 2021, they became a Subject Matter Expert and Content Creator at Outlier.org, where they design clear, engaging learning materials and assessments for the courses College Writing I and II. Lauren also utilizes data (both qualitative and quantitative) to make improvements to the courses. Currently, they are a Lecturer at California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, where they design and teaches upper division interdisciplinary technology courses. In the summer of 2022, they are leading a UX research project with a student researcher.

Lauren Beck has an extensive education history. Lauren obtained a BA in Theatre from UC San Diego in 2001, followed by a Teaching Credential in Secondary English from San Diego State University in 2004. Lauren then went on to earn an MA in Theatre Arts from San Diego State University in 2010. In 2017, they completed their PhD in Interdisciplinary Theatre & Drama from Northwestern University. Additionally, Beck has obtained three certifications from LinkedIn in 2021, including UX Research Methods: Interviewing, Learning Design Thinking, and UX Foundations: Research.
