Chris Swierczewski

Senior Staff Applied Scientist at Outreach

Chris Swierczewski has a diverse work experience spanning from 2007 to the present. Chris began their career in 2007 as an Applied Research Mathematician at the Department of Defense. In 2009, they joined the University of Washington as a Research Assistant, where they led the design and development of an open-source mathematics software package. Chris continued working at the University of Washington until 2016.

In 2012, Chris briefly worked as a Research Mathematician at the Institute for Defense Analyses. In 2016, they transitioned to Amazon as a Software Development Engineer, supporting an advertising performance reporting tool and designing a database auditing system.

From 2017 to 2022, Chris worked at Amazon Web Services as an Applied Scientist, focusing on large-scale streaming anomaly detection and semi-supervised anomaly detection on time series data. Chris collaborated with fellow scientists on root cause analysis and applications of causal methods. Chris was also a primary contributor to the OpenSearch AD Plugin.

In 2022, Chris joined Outreach as a Senior Staff Applied Scientist.

Chris Swierczewski completed their high school education at Bellarmine Preparatory School from 2000 to 2004. They then attended the University of Washington from 2004 to 2008, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Mathematics. Following their undergraduate studies, Chris pursued a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Applied Mathematics at the University of Washington from 2009 to 2010. They further continued their education at the same university and pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Applied Mathematics from 2010 to 2017. However, it is noted that they did not successfully defend their Ph.D. thesis.
