Water Compliance And Sustainability Lead at Owens Corning

Michael Kennedy has a diverse work experience in various environmental and sustainability roles. Michael started their career as an Intern at the Michigan Environmental Council and later worked as an Executive Division Intern at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. Michael also served as an Intern at Green Building Inc., where they provided consultancy on energy-efficient projects. Michael then worked as a SPEA Service Corps Fellow at the City of Bloomington, IN, and as a Greening of the IU Alumni Association Intern at the IU Office of Sustainability.

In 2010, Michael joined the Hutton Honors College at Indiana University as an Academic Advisor. Michael then worked as a Sales Associate at LeekSeek USA before joining the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy as an Environmental Quality Analyst. In this role, they provided regulatory oversight and assisted in drafting permits for regulated facilities.

In 2016, Michael joined General Motors as an Environmental Engineer, where they managed various environmental programs and oversaw the plant's Chemical and Resource Management Programs. Michael later became a Senior Environmental Leader, responsible for air quality regulations, hazardous material compliance, and the ISO-14001 Environmental Management System.

Currently, Michael works at Owens Corning as a Water Compliance and Sustainability Lead. Their role involves overseeing water compliance and sustainability initiatives.

Michael Kennedy's education history includes earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Policy from Michigan State University from 2005 to 2009. Michael then attended Indiana University Bloomington from 2009 to 2012, where they obtained a Master of Public Administration degree in Environmental Policy and Sustainability as well as a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science.

In addition to their formal education, Michael Kennedy has also obtained several certifications. In 2013, they received the Industrial Stormwater Operator certification from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy. In 2015, they obtained the 24 Hour HAZWOPER certification. In 2016, they obtained certifications in 40 CFR RCRA Hazardous Waste Operation and 49 CFR DOT HazMat. Furthermore, in 2017, they became a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager through the Institute of Hazardous Materials Management. Most recently, in 2022, they received the Construction Stormwater Operator certification from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy.
