Doug Shergold has a diverse work experience in various engineering roles. Doug started their career in 1996 at BOC Edwards USA as a Regional Product Support Engineer, where they installed and supported high vacuum PVD coating systems for semiconductor research. In 1999, they became a Project Engineer at the same company, designing and programming PLC automated chiller systems for the semiconductor industry. In 2001, Doug joined Edwards as a Senior Project Engineer, managing non-standard sales orders for customized PVD coating systems. Doug worked at Solartron Mobrey in 2003 as a Project Engineer, responsible for project management and creating price estimates. At Oxford Instruments, they held multiple positions, including Project Engineer, Manufacturing Support Engineer, and Lead Compliance Engineer. In these roles, Doug was in charge of designing, programming, and managing compliance activities for various products.

Doug Shergold obtained a Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Northumbria University, where they studied from 1983 to 1986.
