John Harkness

John Harkness has a strong background in the field of quality control and scientific research. John started their career in 1985 as a Fire Controlman in the United States Navy, where they served for three years. After leaving the Navy, they joined Immunex in 1995 as a QC Analyst, responsible for inspection, sampling, and disposition testing of raw materials.

At Immunex, John quickly moved up the ranks and became a QC Supervisor in 1998, leading a team of laboratory analysts and overseeing various analyses for clinical and commercial products. John also played a key role in laboratory investigations, method validations and transfers, and training staff. During their time at Immunex, they contributed to regulatory filings and provided testing support for validation studies.

In 2002, John took on a new role as an Independent Contractor and part-time Faculty at Shoreline Community College. Here, they organized and instructed an eight-session HPLC course and provided application software training to SCC faculty.

Later in 2002, John joined Amgen as a QC Sr. Manager, where they managed two QC groups responsible for various analytical analyses. John facilitated alignment with global Quality systems and participated in investigations of unexpected or out of specification results. John also played a critical role in planning and process improvement activities.

John's career continued to progress, and in 2009, they joined Bayer HealthCare as a QC Scientist. John worked in this role until 2012 when they transitioned to a new position at Sanofi Genzyme as a QC Scientist Sr. Here, they continued to contribute to quality control efforts until 2018.

In 2018, John joined Partner Therapeutics as a Sr. Scientist, and they currently hold this position.

John Harkness completed their Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Chemistry at the University of Washington from 1992 to 1995. Prior to that, they obtained their Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Philosophy from Washington State University, where they studied from 1988 to 1992.

In addition to their formal education, John Harkness also holds various certifications in professional development. John obtained certifications such as "Collaboration Principles and Process," "Managing Project Stakeholders," "Being a Good Mentee," "How to Design and Deliver Training Programs," "How to Give Negative Feedback to Senior Colleagues," "The Six Biases of Decision-Making," "Bystander Training: From Bystander to Upstander," "Communicating Across Cultures," "Communicating about Culturally Sensitive Issues," "Confronting Bias: Thriving Across Our Differences," "Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging," "Skills for Inclusive Conversations," "Unconscious Bias," "Coaching and Developing Employees," "Improving Your Listening Skills," "Strategic Thinking," "Training with Stories," "How to Use LinkedIn Learning," and "Microsoft Teams Essential Training." These certifications were obtained from LinkedIn, with the most recent obtained in 2020.
