Drew Sotelo

Geospatial Lead Engineer at Phoenix Defense

Drew Sotelo has a strong background in geospatial engineering and analysis. They began their career in 2012 as a Research Intern at the Institute of World Politics. In 2013, they worked as a GIS Storm Water Mapping Project Assistant at the Natural Resources Management Office, where they learned and utilized ArcMap software to create digital maps of storm water structures.

In 2014, Drew joined Productivity Apex, Inc. as a Geographic Information System Specialist. They primarily worked on the SE Core program at Leidos, cleaning and generating GIS data to align with aerial imagery. They also served as a QC analyst on the Vector Editing Team. They continued in this role until 2018.

From 2018 to 2021, Drew worked at ATRIA TECHNOLOGIES, LLC as a Geographic Information System Specialist. They played a key role on the SE Gen program at Leidos, leading the Source team and overseeing the collection and compilation of vector data, imagery, and elevation. They also participated in engineering efforts to develop new tools and workflows to improve production efficiency for the entire GIS production team. Additionally, they worked as an analyst on the Maps Team, cleaning and annotating maps at multiple scales.

Currently, Drew is employed at Phoenix Defense, LLC. Since 2021, they have been serving as the Geospatial Engineer and recently transitioned into the role of Geospatial Lead Engineer in May 2023.

Drew Sotelo completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies with a Minor in History at the University of South Florida from 2008 to 2012. In 2012, they attended American University to study Islam and World Affairs, but did not obtain a degree during that time.
