Vashon Lamont Hill has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries and roles. Beginning in 2010, they worked as a Kindergarten Apprentice Teacher at Plainfield Public Schools. In 2011, they transitioned to the Plainfield Area YMCA, where they served as a Programming/Academic Coordinator until 2013. During this time, they also held positions at Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA as a Teen Program Advisor/PS Music and Movement Teacher and SACC Site Supervisor/Preschool Enrichment Instructor.
In 2013, Vashon Lamont Hill started working at the Plainfield Board of Education as an Employment Counselor and later became the Chief of Marketing & Communications. Vashon Lamont held these positions simultaneously until 2022. Additionally, they worked as an Information Technology Specialist from 2022 to 2023.
In 2017, they joined the Plainfield Education Association where they served as the Association Secretary until 2020. Vashon Lamont then became the Vice President until 2023. In 2019, they worked as a News Reporter Intern at Tap Into Bureau and in 2020, as a Reporter Intern at Gotham Gazette.
Vashon Lamont also had the opportunity to work as a State Ambassador at the New Jersey Education Association from 2015 to 2017. Before that, they served as a Supervisor at the Plainfield Area YMCA from 2014 to 2018.
Vashon Lamont Hill completed a Master's degree in Communications and Media Studies with a focus on Public Relations and Journalism from Rutgers University–New Brunswick, from 2021 to 2023. Prior to that, they attended Kean University from 2015 to 2020 and studied English. Vashon Lamont Hill also attended Plainfield High School from 2011 to 2012.
