Anne Runkel

VP, Research & Development at Plant Response

Anne Runkel is the current Vice President of Research & Development at Plant Response. Anne has a long history of conducting research in the field of plant and microbial biology, with a focus on cell-cell communication in plants. Anne has been published in molecular genetics, cell biology, and evolutionary biology research areas.

Anne started their academic career as an undergraduate student researcher at Montana State University in March 2011. Anne then went on to pursue their PhD at UC Berkeley from August 2011 to August 2016. While at UC Berkeley, Anne was a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow and an Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor. Anne also served as a representative for the graduate admissions committee.

Anne's research experience includes confocal laser scanning microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, protein interaction studies, transcriptional analysis, next-generation sequencing, and quantitative data analysis.

In November 2016, Anne began working at Mendel Biological Solutions as a scientist. Anne was the scientific lead for multiple research teams, developing biologically derived agricultural products. Anne left Mendel Biological Solutions in November 2019 to join Plant Response as their Vice President of Research & Development.

Anne Runkel's educational career includes a Bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from Middlebury College and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Plant Molecular Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.
