Sameera Hussain

Sameera Hussain is a public health expert and social scientist with extensive experience in policy development, strategic planning, and knowledge mobilization. Sameera has worked at various organizations such as the Public Health Agency of Canada, University of Ottawa, Canadian Society for International Health, Canadian Institutes of Health Research, The University of Queensland, University of Toronto, BRAC, and Centre for Policy Dialogue.

At the Public Health Agency of Canada, Sameera served as the Director of Strategic Integration in the Office of International Affairs for the Health Portfolio, as well as the A/Director of Horizontal Planning in the Infectious Diseases and Vaccination Programs Branch. Prior to that, they held the position of Senior Advisor and Manager of Policy Development, where they provided analysis and advice for policy development and contributed to strategic policy planning and development.

In addition, Sameera worked as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ottawa, where they supported the Master of Public Health program and delivered guest lectures on various global health topics. Sameera also served as a Senior Advisor for Strategic Policy and Development at the Canadian Society for International Health, where they contributed to strategic plans for federal organizations and represented the organization in external engagements.

Sameera was a CIHR Health System Impact Fellow, during which they focused on knowledge mobilization in Canada's engagement with the Sustainable Development Goals in the global health policy landscape. Sameera established an international Community of Practice and developed a learning agenda for knowledge exchanges.

As a doctoral researcher at The University of Queensland, Sameera conducted research to amplify and track the health priorities of marginalized communities in global health policy discourse. Sameera also managed research projects and conducted fieldwork in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and southern Philippines.

At the University of Toronto, Sameera worked as a research assistant, supporting the Canada Research Chair in Human Rights and Global Health Equity. Sameera coordinated international collaborations and managed funding for research projects.

Earlier in their career, Sameera worked at BRAC as a project coordinator and co-research investigator, leading interdisciplinary projects and collaborating with institutional partners across multiple countries. Sameera also served as a research associate, evaluating UNICEF's rural Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health programs in Bangladesh.

Sameera started their career as an intern at the Centre for Policy Dialogue.
