Susan Squires has over 30 years of work experience in the healthcare field. Their most recent role was as the Chief of Vaccine Preventable Diseases at the Public Health Agency of Canada, which they started in 2014. Prior to that, Susan worked as an Epidemiologist at Health Canada from 2011 to 2014. From 1997 to 2011, they held the same role at the Public Health Agency of Canada. Throughout their career, Susan has also worked as a Field Epidemiologist at the Nova Scotia Department of Health from 1997 to 1999, a Public Health Nurse at the Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox & Addington Health Unit from 1990 to 1996, and a Community Health Nurse at the Region of Peel in 1990. Susan began their career in 1988 as a Staff Nurse at The Ottawa Hospital, where they worked in the Neurological Step Down Unit caring for patients with acute neurological trauma.

Susan Squires completed their education at Queen's University from 1993 to 1996, where they obtained a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Community Health & Epidemiology. Prior to that, from 1984 to 1988, they attended the University of Ottawa and earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Susan also holds a Registered Nurse (RN) certification from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
