POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Trial Phlebotomist will be a member of the Clinical Operations team and will primarily be focused on ensuring blood sample collection for Qu’s clinical trial is performed correctly. This role requires having excellent venipuncture skills, being highly organized, detail oriented, and having proficiency in working with clinical samples as well as following laboratory and clinical protocols. The Clinical Trial Phlebotomist will report directly to the Clinical Operations team lead and work closely with the Qu’s Preclinical and Translational Research Department to ensure all laboratory procedures are conducted according to protocol.

Specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Following standard operating procedures to collect human blood samples for the isolation of Peripheral Blood Monocytic Cells (PBMCs), immune function assays and collection of plasma and serum
  • Maintaining accurate specimen processing and inventory records in accordance with Good Clinical Practice guidelines
  • Coordinating, tracking and maintaining documentation for specimen shipments to external research laboratories
  • Travelling locally, within the Greater Vancouver Region, to collect clinical samples for processing
  • Ordering laboratory reagents and maintaining equipment necessary for processing trial samples
  • Communicating updates on the status of sample collection to trial staff in a clear, concise, and professional manner
  • Attending meetings related to monitoring enrollment, identifying and problem-solving challenges in trial conduct, creating and implementing strategies to meet study objectives and timelines, ensuring protocol adherence, quality in trial conduct, and risk mitigation
  • Providing support to the team to pre-screen potential study participants
  • Other duties as necessary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Formal training as a Medical Laboratory Assistant or equivalent training for phlebotomy/venipuncture
  • Legally able to work in Canada
  • A minimum of 5 years of practical experience working as a phlebotomist in a clinical setting, preferably working with elderly individuals
  • Holding a class 5 driver's license and having access to a car
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills, meticulous record keeping and highly organized

Please note Qu’s general work hours are Monday to Friday, (8:30 am to 5 pm) but there may be need for the occasional late evening and weekend hours, as typical in a research lab environment.

COMPENSATION

Salary commensurate with experience; range $60,000 - $75,000, prorated to 0.8 FTE. Three (3) weeks annual vacation and benefits.
