Alison Hay has a background in Community Development and has worked for the voluntary sector for more than twenty years. She feels passionate about the role of the community/voluntary sector within society because it is grassroots led and can be innovative and creative in its approach. She has developed projects within a range of areas including housing, young people, mental health, and befriending and worked for fifteen years in public health in a variety of health improvement settings. She presently work for a Women's Aid organization delivering training and leading on fundraising and development. Alison has spent time in several countries in the Far East volunteering for empowering women projects. Throughout her working life, she has recognized how central their approach to mental health and acknowledging the effects of trauma are to people's journey towards positive wellbeing
To relax, Alison plays the fiddle with a Scottish traditional fiddle group and sings in the local choral society.
