About Quantum Brilliance

Here at Quantum Brilliance, we are the world pioneer in room-temperature quantum computing using synthetic diamonds. Our unique vision is to make quantum computing available as an everyday technology, from data centres to remote and mobile systems like autonomous robots and

satellites. In contrast to quantum computers that fill a room, we are developing quantum accelerators with more compute power than a classical supercomputer but a form factor smaller than a lunchbox.

Founded in 2019 by experts in diamond quantum science from the Australian National University, we are a full-stack quantum computing company. An Australia-German company, our HQs are in Canberra and Stuttgart, with additional locations across Australia and southern Germany. We are working with global technology innovators to develop quantum computing applications, integrate quantum with high-performance computing, solve materials science challenges and develop ultra- precise semiconductor manufacturing and control techniques.

Quantum Brilliance’s vision to enable mass deployment of quantum accelerators will propel industries to harness edge computing applications and next-generation supercomputers. Quantum Brilliance’s international partnerships extend into North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, working with governments, supercomputing centres, research organisations and industry experts.

We are backed by eminent venture capital funds and major research and technology institutes.

The Mission

The Senior Quantum Engineer plays a central role in leading the design, development, and performance improvement of our laboratory systems and prototype integrated quantum devices that harness the unique properties of diamond-based spin qubits for scalable quantum computing solutions. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced quantum engineer to join our dynamic team and drive the advancement of our research efforts around the design and development of diamond-based scalable integrated quantum technologies.

About the Role
As a Senior Quantum Engineer, you will be a technical leader within project teams consisting of quantum, hardware, software, and device and process integration engineers with a mission to develop, characterize, conduct, and improve the performance of both laboratory systems and of diamond-based integrated quantum devices. You are expected to develop & lead high-impact research projects that intersect with our technology roadmap by testing new multi-qubit architectures, developing and optimizing quantum operations and multi-qubit metrology protocols, and integrating cutting-edge quantum technologies with our existing infrastructure. We are looking for candidates with strong engineering principles and resourcefulness, where organization, initiative taking, and communication skills are essential, whose contributions will directly impact the

advancement of our quantum computing capabilities and drive forward the practical applications of our research and development efforts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and implementation of novel quantum operation protocols for initialization, control and readout of multi-qubit systems within diamond-based integrated quantum devices, and conduct experimental research to characterize and enhance the performance of such devices.

  • Develop and implement state-of-the-art quantum metrology and benchmarking protocols suitable and tailored to the capabilities of diamond-based quantum systems.

  • Collaborate with our internal and international cross-functional teams to integrate quantum hardware with classical control systems.

  • Ability to independently design and execute complex experiments, perform detailed data analysis, prepare technical reports and presentations, and provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers in executing these tasks, ensuring best practices and high-quality outcomes.

  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in quantum information science and technology, with a particular focus on diamond-based quantum technologies, and contribute to the company's intellectual property portfolio through patents and/or publications.

Essential skills :

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Quantum Information sciences, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in the fields of experimental metrology and quantum information science or related fields, and ideally have experience with solid-state spin qubits or diamond-based quantum systems.

  • Experience in building and operating advanced optical laboratory instrumentation and fields & proficiency in experimental techniques for multi-qubit characterization and control or related

  • Proven track record of scientific publications and/or patents in the field of quantum information processing (computing, sensing, communications/networking) or related fields.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

  • Proficient communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

Desirable skills:

  • Background PhD and/or post-doc experience in diamond/NV-based experimental research (sensing, communications/network, computing).
  • Proficient in programming skills (Python, MATLAB, or similar languages) for data analysis and algorithm development.
  • Experience successfully delivering on projects as part of a cross-team collaboration.
  • Design, micro/nano-fabrication (photonic, and metallic structures), and characterization of diamond-based integrated devices.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Trusted teamwork and coaching skills.
