Michael Shaw

Michael Shaw has a diverse background in the field of engineering and software development. Michael started their career at Protronix Ltd. in 2007 as an Embedded Systems Engineer, where they designed and implemented embedded systems and desktop control clients. Michael also tested and debugged electronics hardware and elicited requirements for projects.

In 2010, Shaw joined Specialist Electronics Services as an Embedded Software Engineer, working on hardware development in VHDL and software development in C and C#. Michael also utilized PERL for automating development testing tasks.

From 2011 to 2012, Shaw worked as an Electronics Engineer at Horiba Jobin Yvon IBH Ltd., focusing on the development of an embedded system to automate products. Michael designed and implemented hardware and an embedded software framework for controlling various system components.

Shaw joined Optos in 2012 as a Software Engineer, primarily working with Optos Daytona and prototypes for another product. Michael gained experience with Continuous Integration tools such as Jenkins and assisted in the migration of existing builds onto the system.

In 2013, Shaw transitioned to Nautronix as an Embedded Software Engineer, where they contributed to the development of embedded software and worked with LINbus networking technology.

Michael then joined RAPTOR OIL LTD in 2015 as a Senior Software Engineer, focusing on software development.

Shaw joined Spire in 2017 as a Software Engineer, working on software development.

In 2019, Shaw started their own company, DGSN Ltd., where they served as the Owner. Michael worked on building a network for low bandwidth high availability data downlink from LEO satellites and developed functionalities such as satellite location tracking and data provenance. Although the project ran a successful limited trial, it ultimately failed to secure funding and ceased operations.

During this time, Shaw also worked as a Consultant, offering their expertise in embedded systems electronics/software, embedded DSP, and distributed ledger/P2P systems, with a focus on the space domain. Michael remains open to consulting roles for interesting projects.

Most recently, Shaw joined R3 IoT Limited in 2021 as an Embedded System Engineer.

Throughout their career, Shaw has demonstrated proficiency in various programming languages and has experience with both hardware and software development in the embedded systems field. Michael has also shown adaptability by working in different industries and taking on leadership roles as a consultant and startup owner.

Michael Shaw attended the University of Strathclyde from 2005 to 2009, where they earned a BEng degree in Computer and Electronic Systems. Additionally, they pursued a degree in Beng Computer and Electronic Systems, specializing in Computer Science/Electronic and Electrical Engineering at the same institution.
