Senior Data Scientist at Ravelin

Hayley Bannister has held several positions in the field of data science and marine science. Hayley began their career in 2008 as a Jack Petchey Foundation Scholar at Coral Cay Conservation, where they completed a five-week marine expedition to the Philippines, gaining qualifications in both PADI Advanced Open Water Diving and Emergency First Response, and passing all computer tests and in-water validations on coral species, tropical fish, invertebrates and algae. In 2018, they joined Cefas as a Fisheries Scientist, where they were the work package lead on a project being used to support EU negotiations, and co-developed the ‘LeMaRns’ R package. In 2019, they joined Ravelin Technology as a Junior Data Scientist, and was later promoted to Senior Data Scientist. In this role, they are responsible for training, evaluating, debugging and deploying fraud detection models for high-profile clients.

Hayley Bannister began their educational journey at East Barnet School, where they completed their high school studies from 2002 to 2009. Hayley then attended the University of St Andrews, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Marine Biology (Hons) in 2013. During their time there, they also completed a Master's Degree with Distinction in MRes Ecosystem-based Management of Marine Systems from 2013 to 2014. In 2012, they also took part in an exchange program at James Cook University, where they studied Marine Biology. Finally, Hayley Bannister completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Uncertainty in Projections of Future Conditions in Marine Ecosystems at The University of Sheffield in 2019.
