Job description

As a Junior Systems Admin with Reinventing Geospatial, Inc. (RGi), you will have the opportunity to support Defense and Intelligence Community projects by using emerging technologies and industry best practices.  This position will support a dynamic, challenging and engaged Special Operations customer with the development, integration, and maintenance of commercial and government software platforms within the larger framework of governmental enterprise software solutions.  We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual with a solid IT background that wants to help us drive our customer and company missions forward.  A successful candidate must be comfortable working on both large and small development teams of varying skill levels within a multi team environment. The candidate must be self-starting, able to work well within a team environment and motivated to deliver innovative capabilities that directly impact national security.

Clearance: Active Top Secret clearance with an ability to obtain SCI access and willingness to obtain CI Polygraph US Citizenship required

As a Junior Systems Admin you will...

  • Monitoring and acting on any hardware and software outages on the platform
  • Engaging with tenants and users of the OpenStack Cloud Platform via chat services to assist them with trouble shooting and requests as needed
  • Implementing cyber security remediations in close cooperation with the cyber security team
  • Upgrading and deploying applications on the platform
  • Integrating new hardware into multiple different compute clusters
  • Reviewing and updating existing procedures and documentation

Junior Systems Admin Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
  • Willing to work 100% onsite in a secure environment
  • Basic linux skills (3-5 years admin):  Install/update/administer linux (rhel/rocky/debian/ubuntu).
  • Be able to manage bare-metal hardware installs (pxe/manual/automated install of OS).  Working skillset including: users, applications, OS packages, kernel/OS configuration, filesystems (xfs, ext4, nfs, fuse), networks, firewall, security/hardening (STIG, OSCAP).
  • Hardware skills (3-5 years, various hardware vendors: Dell/SM/HPE):  Hands on experience racking systems, connecting network and direct attach storage devices.
  • Familiar with storage hardware: NAS, SAN, direct attach, sata/sas/nvme drive.
  • Working knowledge of PCIe cards: Raid/network/GPU/other.
  • Basic knowledge of HPC technologies (experience work of at least 1-3 years)  such as parallel/distributed file systems (e.g. Lustre, Ceph, GPFS, GlusterFS, BeeGFS) high speed interconnect fabrics (e.g. Infiniband, Omni-path, RoCE)
  • HPC batch schedulers (e.g. PBSpro, OpenPBS, SLURM, Torque, HTCondor, SGE)
  • Basic understanding of how HPC environments function
  • Able to work with users and help them understand how HPC systems function

Additional Qualifications we would like to see.

  • Nice to have working knowledge of cluster managers (Bright Cluster Manager now named Base Command Manager;  xCAT, Warewulf, Rocks,  Scyld)
  • The willingness to gain a better understanding of HPC methods and applications, someone who wants to be mentored.
