Rob Hall

Rob Hall has a diverse work experience in machine learning and data science roles. Rob currently works as a Staff Machine Learning Engineer at Resonance Companies, where they specialize in numerical optimization, irregular strip packing, scheduling, and terraforming eks. Rob is also involved in applying embedding models and reinforcement learning to the nesting problem. Prior to this, they served as a Principal Data Scientist at Gopuff, focusing on search infrastructure, retrieval, ranking, and semantic search models. Rob has also worked at Faire as a Machine Learning Engineer and at TripAdvisor as a Principal Machine Learning Engineer and Senior Software Engineer. In addition, they have worked as a Parttime Lecturer at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Rob started their career at Etsy, progressing from Senior Data Scientist to Staff Data Scientist. Before that, Rob pursued a PhD in Machine Learning/Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University, specializing in privacy-preserving data mining research. Rob has also interned at Google, where they worked on keyword retrieval techniques and product clustering systems, and at Yahoo!, where they gained experience as an intern.

Rob Hall earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, which they attended from 2002 to 2006. Following this, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Machine Learning and Statistics at Carnegie Mellon University from 2008 to 2012.
