Erik Shilts has a diverse work experience. Erik is currently serving as the Senior Director of Data Science at Rewiring America since August 2022. Prior to that, they worked at Rally Health from July 2018 to October 2021, where they held the positions of Senior Director and Director of Data Science.
Before joining Rally Health, Erik worked at Microsoft from January 2016 to July 2018 as the Principal Manager Data and Applied Sciences | Mobile Data Labs. In this role, they managed a team of data scientists and analysts, leading the development of deep learning models and predictive modeling to enhance product performance and gain insights from data.
From 2010 to 2015, Erik had multiple roles at Opower. Erik started as a Quantitative Analyst, where they designed and analyzed randomized and non-randomized control trials to extract meaningful insights and forecast energy use. Erik then transitioned into the role of Senior Quantitative Analyst, focusing on researching and developing machine learning techniques for energy consumption reduction. Finally, they became a Data Scientist and founded the Opower Data Science team, where they transformed energy, thermostat, and customer data into actionable insights.
Prior to their time at Opower, Erik worked at Freddie Mac from 2006 to 2010. Erik served as a Pricing Transaction Analyst, where they led projects and collaborated with colleagues to solve financial and operational problems. Erik then became a Quantitative Researcher, conducting analyses to determine the effects of policy changes on the market and presenting findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
Early in their career, Erik worked at the Shenzhen Education Bureau in 2005 as a Foreign Language Expert. Erik taught English to high-school students and organized after-school study groups to facilitate English learning for faculty and students.
Erik Shilts completed their Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute from 2001 to 2005. Erik later pursued a Master of Arts degree in Applied Economics at The Johns Hopkins University from 2007 to 2009.
