Director Of Food Strategy at Rhode Island Commerce

Julianne Stelmaszyk has a diverse work experience in various organizations and industries. Julianne is currently working as the Director of Food Strategy at Rhode Island Commerce, where they lead the implementation of the Rhode Island Food Strategy. Prior to this, they worked as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Environmental Studies Department at Boston College.

From 2018 to 2020, Julianne served as the Regional & Sustainable Food Systems Manager at Boston College, where they launched a sustainability program and regional sourcing strategy for the university dining service. Julianne also held leadership roles in diversity, equity, and inclusion task forces and food waste task forces.

Julianne has also worked as a Chef Instructor at Boston Public Market, a Consultant at Eataly, and the Food, Gardens & Sustainability Manager at St. Stephen's School. Julianne launched a sustainable food service program at the school and oversaw various sustainability initiatives.

Additionally, Julianne founded Breaking Bread Rome, a culinary tour company that offers communal food experiences in Rome. Julianne also completed a Culinary Apprenticeship with the Rome Sustainable Food Project at the American Academy in Rome.

Early in their career, Julianne worked as a Solar Associate at Brightfields Development LLC and as a Field Crew/Farmers Market Salesperson at SIENA FARMS. Overall, Julianne's work experience demonstrates their expertise and passion for food sustainability, education, and community engagement.

Julianne Stelmaszyk completed their Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree from Northeastern University with a focus on Environmental Studies and International Affairs, with a minor in Economics from 2007 to 2012. Julianne then pursued a Master of Business Administration degree in Sustainability and Social Impact from Boston College Carroll School of Management from 2018 to 2021. Additionally, they obtained various certifications including Serv Safe Certification in December 2019, Aquaponic Farming Certificate from Bioaqua Farm in October 2016, Edible Schoolyard Academy Teacher Training from The Edible Schoolyard Project in June 2016, Permaculture Design Certification from Sowing Solutions Permaculture Design & Education in July 2015, and First Aid Certification in June 2015.
