The role

Be part of a new era, as our talented Experience Design (XD) Team expands to meet and exceed the expectations of our millions of users. This is your chance to impact our most engaged home-hunters – apps are where our users really get moving!

We have two apps teams, each focusing on different areas of the consumer journey. You'll be embedded in the ‘Core’ team, who have a vision to empower our most active consumers to find and evaluate properties which are suitable for their needs.

You’ll report to the Lead Product Designer for Consumer. You’ll also form part of the growing XD Team of 25+ passionate, curious, and creative people. Our multi-disciplinary team is made up of Product Design, Service Design, Content Design and User Research.

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborating closely with other designers in your domain to understand the impact of your work on apps users and other domains.
  • Autonomously executing user testing, gathering relevant insights to support product decisions.
  • Developing and sharing user insights to help shape app initiatives and inform solutions with User Research, Content Designers and Lead Product Designers.
  • Producing relevant design artifacts (sketches, wireframes, prototypes, journey-maps, assets, etc.) in line with the delivery roadmap.
  • Supporting the Product Manager in shaping the apps vision and commercial objectives.
  • Gaining a deep understanding of the apps technology and its capabilities.
  • Working closely with the Product Manager to understand the impact your work will have on the broader domain, identifying risks and adoption strategies specific to mobile applications.
  • Driving user experience quality and adoption for app users.
  • Fostering ongoing collaboration with engineers and QA through, ideation workshops, mapping sessions and refinements.
  • Actively sharing your design processes and frameworks.
  • Actively seeking feedback on app designs, processes, and ideas.
  • Cultivating strong relationships with other Product Designers, focusing on enhancing collaboration and documentation.
  • Collaborating with the Design System Product Designer to maintain and contribute towards our Design System in alignment with our brand, ensuring it’s flexible enough to accommodate iOS and Android native components.

We’re looking for someone who has

  • Atleast 5 years’ proven experience as a high performing Senior Product Designer within an end-to-end role, owning projects for their entire lifecycle, from conception and ideation to delivery.
  • Proven experience in designing for mobile applications, with a strong portfolio demonstrating user-centred design principles.
  • Extensive experience and deep understanding of both iOS and Android platforms, including their native components, design guidelines, capabilities, and limitations.
  • In-depth knowledge of user behaviour on mobile devices, including interaction design, touch targets, mobile navigation and accessibility considerations specific to apps.
  • Expertise in using design tools and software to create high-fidelity prototypes tailored for apps.
  • A strong ability to leverage analytics and user feedback to inform and validate design decisions.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and autonomy with research methodologies.
  • Experience streamlining complex end-to-end user journeys, identifying pain-points and visualising ‘the bigger picture.’
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance user needs with business goals and technical constraints in app development.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Knowledge and experience with research methodologies and associated tooling (independently or in support of user researchers), journey mapping, problem-framing and solving, running workshops and collaborative sessions – highly desirable and necessary at least at a base level.

  • Systems thinking and ability to implement established best practices and patterns to deliver outputs of high standards and accessible, inclusive experiences.

  • Maturity and autonomy in managing your time and focus – you can comfortably utilise your skills to craft the vision for your domain, even when navigating some ambiguity.

  • Experience across all stages of the product-design lifecycle.

  • Ability to demonstrate long-term strategic thinking.

  • Strong collaboration skills, comfortable engaging with a variety of stakeholders
