John McDermott

John McDermott, Jr PE has extensive work experience spanning over four decades. John currently holds the position of VP, Technical Management at Rise Light & Power starting in November 2022. Prior to this, they served as the Director of Projects & Engineering at Centrica from January 2017 to November 2022. John also worked as the Head of Projects & Engineering at Direct Energy from January 2014 to January 2017.

Before joining Centrica, John McDermott, Jr PE held various positions at Hess Energy Marketing, LLC, including Director of Infrastructure Projects from August 2013 to December 2013, Director of Terminals, Engineering & Construction from September 2011 to August 2013, Manager of Energy Engineering from January 2008 to August 2011, and Senior Project Manager from April 2005 to December 2007.

Earlier in their career, they worked as a Senior Project Manager at Burns and Roe Enterprises, Inc. from 1998 to 2005. John also served as a Principal Engineer at Raytheon Engineers & Constructors (formerly Ebasco Services, Inc.) from 1990 to 1997 and as an Electrical Engineer at FLSmidth A/S from 1988 to 1990.

John McDermott, Jr PE began their professional journey in the US Navy, where they held the position of Petty Officer Second Class - Electrician's Mate from 1978 to 1984.

John McDermott, Jr PE completed their education at the New Jersey Institute of Technology. John obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in the years 1984-1988. Following that, they pursued a Master of Science in Engineering Management from 1988-1993. In 2013, they received a Master's Certificate in Project Management from Villanova University. McDermott also completed their high school education at Bergenfield High School. Additionally, they hold multiple certifications including Professional Engineer, Distributed Generation Certified Professional, and various certifications from the Association of Energy Engineers. John is also a member of the Project Management Institute but doesn't have a specified year for obtaining the PMP certification.
