John Brereton

Director of Physical Security at Robinhood

John Brereton is the Director of Physical Security at Robinhood. John has over seven years of experience in the security industry and has held various leadership positions throughout their career.

Brereton started their career as an Emergency Medical Technician with the State of California. John then transitioned into the security industry and spent six years with Gavin de Becker & Associates (GDBA). At GDBA, they gained valuable experience in all aspects of protection, leadership, training and team coordination. John was responsible for selecting and managing multiple close protection, technology, threat assessment, investigations, and information security teams. John traveled and worked in many countries during their time with GDBA and held various leadership positions throughout their tenure.

In August 2019, Brereton joined Robinhood as the Director of Physical Security. In this role, they are responsible for the safety and security of Robinhood’s employees, facilities, and assets. John works closely with Robinhood’s executive team to develop and implement security protocols and procedures. Brereton is a highly-skilled security professional with a proven track record of protecting people and property.

John Brereton has a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences and Behavioral Science from Concordia University Irvine. John also has a Certificate in Threat Assessment and Investigations from the Advanced Threat Assessment Academy. John is certified by the American Heart Association as a First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor.

John Brereton reports to Vlad Tenev, Co-Founder & CEO. They work with Daniel Gallagher - Chief Legal Officer, Kyle Matson - Chief of Staff, and David Dusseault - President & COO, Robinhood Financial.
