Sara Harris

Family Coach Supervisor at Safe Families for Children

Sara Harris is the Family Coach Supervisor at Safe Families for Children. Prior to that, they were a Home Care Music Therapist at VITAS Healthcare from June 2015 to March 2016. In that role, they managed a case load of 70+ patients, assessed patients, and updated the plan of care to include goals of music therapy. Sara also evaluated the efficacy of interventions, assisted the Director of Music Therapy with research, and co-facilitated peer support groups through the Children's Bereavement Center.

Before their work at VITAS Healthcare, Sara was the Life Enrichment Manager at Sunrise Senior Living from August 2013 to June 2015. In that role, they planned and implemented meaningful daily activities for adults with dementia that nourished their mind, body, and spirit. Sara knew each resident's background and preferences to better plan activities and maintain inventory of supplies. Sara also spent 1:1 time with each resident, helped delegate and motivate care staff to assist and participate in activities, and communicated with families at least once a month with updates as to how their loved one was doing.

Sara's first role in the field of music therapy was as an intern at Hospice & Palliative CareCenter from August 2012 to February 2013.

Sara Harris has a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy from Western Michigan University.

Sara Harris reports to Michelle Lussmyer, Interim Director. Some of their coworkers include Alicia Ingersoll - Intake Supervisor/Program Coordinator, Kate Swanson - Engagement Coordinator, and Cassidy Ascherl - Family Coach Supervisor.
