Thomas Hinkel

Thomas Hinkel has a diverse work experience in the field of compliance and IT. Thomas started their career as an IS Coordinator at Republic Security Bank in 1995 and worked there until 1998. Following that, they served as an IT Manager at Palm Beach National Bank from 1998 to 2001, where they were responsible for managing the IT department and chaired the disaster recovery committee. From 2001 to 2006, Thomas was the owner of SecureIT Partners, Inc. Afterward, they joined Safe Systems, Inc., where they held multiple roles. Thomas started as an Account Manager from 2006 to 2009, overseeing customer requests and conducting system reviews. Thomas then became the Director of Compliance from 2009 to 2015, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and acting as a resource for Safe Systems customers. Since 2015, Thomas has been serving as the VP of Compliance Services at Safe Systems, Inc., where they provide thought leadership, contributes to various departments, and acts as the primary contact for customer compliance-related services.

Thomas Hinkel attended Illinois Wesleyan University from 1976 to 1980, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Liberal Arts. In 1990 to 1992, they studied at the New England Institute of Technology and received a Specialized Associate degree in Computer Programming Technology. Thomas also attended the SANS Institute from 2002 to 2003, where they obtained a GSEC degree in Computer Security.

In terms of additional certifications, Thomas obtained several certifications. Thomas received the Master Business Continuity Professional (MBCP) certification from DRI International (Disaster Recovery Institute) in January 2019. In June 2016, they obtained the Certified Third Party Risk Professional (CTPRP) certification from Shared Assessments. Thomas also received the Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA) from The Institute of Internal Auditors Inc. in August 2012, and the Certified in Control Self Assessment (CCSA) certification from the same institution in June 2011. Additionally, they obtained the Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control™ (CRISC) certification from ISACA in November 2010 and the Certified Information Systems Auditor® (CISA) certification from ISACA in September 2010. Lastly, Thomas received the Cybersecurity Advisory Services Certificate from AICPA in April 2018.
