Adjunct Associate Professor at the Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, with expertise in biomedicine, clinical research and systems biology. He has an MD from the University of Rome and a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford. He is also a Member of the Institute of Engineering in Medicine, UCSD. He is a previous winner of the Merck Geriatric Cardiology Research Award and of the Ellison Medical Foundation New Scholar Award and a member of the American Federation for Aging Research National Scientific Advisory Council. He has reviewed grants for several Federal (NIH and NSF) and International Agencies, including academic and small business (SBIR) research proposals and has been an invited speaker at National and International Conferences in Systems Biology.
He is a former and current Principal Investigator in NIH and NSF grants and coauthors of many biomedical papers (including publications in Nature, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and the Journal of Clinical Investigation). Several of his recent papers have been about novel methods for combinatorial therapies and precision medicine, benefiting from a multi-year scientific collaboration with Drs Piermarocchi and Ball.
