Matt Hill

Director, Hardware Product Design at Samsara

Matt Hill has a diverse work experience spanning various companies and roles. Matt is currently working as the Director of Hardware Product Design at Samsara since October 2022. Prior to this, they spent a significant amount of time at Apple, where they held multiple positions, including Senior Manager of iPhone Product Design and Senior Product Design Engineer, from April 2009 to October 2022. Matt also spent three years at Stanford as a PhD candidate and Stanford Graduate Fellow. During this time, they focused on developing haptic interfaces and completed qualifying exams in Mechatronics, Biomechanics, Design, and Controls, as well as obtaining an MS in Mechatronics. Before Stanford, Matt gained experience as an Engineering Intern at IDEO and iRobot, and as an Engineering Intern at the US Army Soldier Systems Center, where they worked on projects related to robotics and airdrop and aerial delivery. Matt started their career as an R&D Laboratory Technician at Keystone Aniline Corporation. Overall, Matt Hill has a strong background in product design, engineering, and research.

Matt Hill completed their Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering from 2001 to 2006. Matt then pursued a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Mechatronics, at Stanford University from 2006 to 2008. Later, they continued their studies at Stanford University as a PhD candidate in Mechanical Engineering from 2008 to 2009.
