Sharon De La Garza has extensive work experience in various roles and industries. Sharon began their career at Gap Inc. as an Assistant Store Manager in 1989 before moving on to Kell Munoz Architects as a Marketing Director. In 1995, they joined Barnes & Noble as an Assistant Store Manager. In 1997, Sharon started working for the City of San Antonio as the Interim Classification & Compensation Administrator. Sharon then joined the City of Dallas, Texas as the Director of Human Resources in 1999. Sharon returned to the City of San Antonio in 2004 as the Director of Human Resources and later became the Assistant to the City Manager. In 2008, they were promoted to Assistant City Manager. In 2012, Sharon joined the San Antonio Water System as the Vice President of Human Resources and Risk Management, and later became the Senior Vice President in the same roles. Overall, Sharon has a strong background in human resources and risk management, with experience in both the public and private sectors.

Sharon De La Garza obtained their Strategic Human Resources Management degree from Harvard Business School Executive Education in 2001. Prior to that, they earned their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Harvard University between 1985 and 1989. Sharon completed their high school education at Providence Catholic School, where they obtained their high school diploma in 1985.
