Gary Fernandes has a significant amount of experience in human resources, holding various roles throughout their career. Gary started as a District Human Resources Director at UPS in 1988, overseeing the HR function for 6,500 employees and 44 facilities. Gary held this position until 2009, also serving as a member of the District CEO's Strategic Planning Team and advising senior staff on personnel and process decisions. From 2009 to 2013, Fernandes worked as a Corporate Talent Development Director at UPS, responsible for managing performance improvement, succession planning, and talent management in two domestic districts. Gary also focused on enhancing the Global Leadership development program and implementing leadership programs. In 2013, Fernandes joined CarMax as a Regional Human Resources Director, supervising HR operations in six states and 13 stores. Currently, Fernandes works at Sandy Spring Bank, where they have held roles as Director of Human Resources, Division Executive of Human Resources, and currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer.

Gary Fernandes, MS has a comprehensive education history. Gary obtained a Masters of Science in Human Resources Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus from 1995 to 1999. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland from 1986 to 1990.

In terms of additional certifications, Gary obtained the SHRM-SCP certification from SHRM in January 2015 and the SPHR certification from the Human Resources Certification Institute in June 2011.
