Mike VanAartsen

Mike VanAartsen serves as the Director of Safety, Wellness & Occupational Health at The Santa Fe Opera since January 2021, focusing on the health, safety, and well-being of staff, artists, and patrons while promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. Previously, Mike held the role of COVID Compliance and Safety Manager, where responsibilities included developing protocols for a safe reopening amid the pandemic. With extensive freelance experience since 2001, Mike has worked in various capacities such as Safety Consultant, Technical Designer, Production Manager, and more for reputable organizations including the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Colorado Opera. Mike's educational background includes an MFA in Technical Design and Production from Yale School of Drama and a BA in Communication Studies and Theater from the University of Sioux Falls.
