Larry Deschaine

Team Lead - Data Sciences (ai/ml & Optimization) at Savannah River National Laboratory

Larry Deschaine has a diverse work experience spanning over several decades. Larry started their career in 1984 at AECOM (formerly Metcalf & Eddy), where they worked as a Simulation/Optimization Specialist. During this time, Larry gained valuable experience in simulating large physical systems such as the proposed Manasquan Reservoir and Boston Harbor & Gulf of Maine.

In 1998, Larry joined SAIC as a Principal Systems Engineer. In this role, they conducted detailed examinations of the power grid, focusing on operational and plant physical processes related to electrical power dispatch requests and generator responses. Larry developed the Adaptive Generator Model (AGM) algorithm, a real-time self-learning system that was independently validated by PJM Interconnection, Inc.

In 2009, Larry joined HydroGeoLogic, Inc. as an Optimization and Complex Adaptive Systems Subject Matter Expert. In this position, they were responsible for developing and applying computational mathematical paradigms and software algorithms for optimal design, system control, operations, and monitoring. Larry also played a key role in developing and leading the deployment of the Physics Based Management Optimization (PBMO) system to specific industrial problems.

Currently, Larry works at Savannah River National Laboratory as a Team Lead - Data Sciences, specializing in AI/ML and Optimization.

Larry Deschaine obtained their Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1984. Larry then pursued a PhD in the Department of Space, Earth and the Environment at Chalmers University of Technology, completing it in 2014. Later, from 2012 to 2016, they attended Saint Leo University and earned a Master of Theology (M.Th.) with a specialization in Catholic studies.
