Adam Fogel

Director, Discovery Biology at Scholar Rock

Adam Fogel has a diverse range of work experience in the field of biology. Adam is currently employed at Scholar Rock as the Associate Director of Discovery Biology since July 2022. Prior to this, they held the positions of Senior Scientist II and Senior Scientist I in the Discovery Biology division at Scholar Rock from August 2020 to July 2022 and December 2017 to July 2020, respectively.

Before joining Scholar Rock, Adam worked at Biogen as a Scientist from August 2015 to December 2017. Adam'srole involved being the functional lead for high-content assay development and screening in the bioassays group. Adam supported preclinical projects in neurodegenerative diseases and developed assays for autophagy, mitophagy, and lysosomal function.

Adam's career began at the National Institutes of Health in 2010, where they served as a Postdoctoral Fellow until June 2015. During this time, they worked with Dr. Richard Youle on studying the role of mitochondrial quality control in Parkinson's Disease. Adam conducted research using genome editing techniques and cell-based assays to identify novel phosphorylation events critical during autophagy.

Prior to their work at the National Institutes of Health, Adam was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Yale University from March 2009 to December 2009. Adam'sresearch focused on the molecular mechanisms of central nervous system synapse formation under the mentorship of Dr. Thomas Biederer. Adam utilized molecular biology, neuronal cell biology, and protein biochemistry to identify a novel adhesive code in synaptic adhesion molecules.

Adam's educational journey began at Brandeis University, where they worked as an Undergraduate Research Assistant from May 2001 to May 2003. Under the guidance of Dr. Li Deng, they contributed to the development of enantioselective Michael Addition reactions by gaining experience in organic synthesis, purification techniques, and analytical tools such as NMR and HPLC.

Adam Fogel received their Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Brandeis University in 2003. Adam further pursued their education at Yale University, where they obtained their Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2009.
