Benjamin Spears

Principal Scientist, Chemistry at Selux Diagnostics

Benjamin Spears began their career in 2008 as an Undergraduate Researcher at Mississippi State University, where they also served as a Resident Assistant and Chemistry Department Mentor. In 2010, they joined Vanderbilt University as a Research Assistant. In 2015, they joined SeLux Diagnostics, Inc as a Lead Chemist and Senior Research Scientist, Polymer Chemist. In this role, they were responsible for developing a Next Generation Phenotyping (NGP) platform to transform infectious disease treatment by increasing the speed and accuracy of targeted antibiotic therapies. Benjamin was also involved in combating the global antibiotic resistance epidemic.

Benjamin Spears attended Pearl High School, followed by Mississippi State University from 2006 to 2010 where they earned a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Chemistry. Benjamin then attended Vanderbilt University from 2010 to 2015 and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry.
