Derek Puff has over 20 years of experience in software engineering and product development. In 1996, they began their career as a Senior Software Engineer at Philips, where they developed software packages for two- and three-dimensional interactive visualization of computed tomography (CT) data and radiation dose distributions for AcQSim and AcQPlan products. In 2000, they became the Director of Product Development at MD Online, Inc., where they managed teams of software engineers in the development of ImageMatch, a medical image search engine. Derek also designed and implemented medical image processing C++ class architecture and developed acquisition and processing pipeline for populating large DICOM medical image database. In 2001, they were appointed as the Director of Software Engineering at SRU Biosystems, Inc., where they architected and implemented BIND View, a .NET 4.0 C# WinForms application for viewing images acquired from the SRU Biosystems BIND Scanner. From 2012 to 2015, they worked as a Principal Software Engineer at X-BODY Biosciences, where they architected and implemented a bioinformatics infrastructure for storage and analysis of antibody drug candidates from the X-BODY NGS (next-generation sequencing) discovery platform. Since 2017, they have been working as a Principal Software Engineer at Selux Diagnostics, Inc., where they have architected and implemented a web-based infrastructure for capturing and analyzing data from Juno Therapeutics antibody discovery platform.

Derek Puff completed a Post-doctoral Fellowship at the University of Michigan in Radiation Oncology from 1995 to 1996. From 1989 to 1995, they attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Biomedical Engineering. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Franklin & Marshall College in Biology/Psychology from 1985 to 1989.
